Painting masterclass in picturesque Dales village

A painting masterclass with professional landscape artist Paul Talbot-Greaves. Search for subjects around Gunnerside using sketchbooks and cameras, learn how to scale and interpret a view, and turn your preliminary work into a finished painting with Paul’s expert coaching. There will be some light walking around the village as part of this fascinating and inspiring day.
All skill levels are welcome. Suitable for users of acrylic or watercolour. Please bring your own paints and materials, and a packed lunch. For a full list of materials required, please see below.

EQUIPMENT LIST
Camera
Phone or iPad camera is fine.
Sketching
Small A5 sketchpad, 4B pencil, black and mid grey Posca markers or similar tools for blocking in black and grey studies.
Paints (acrylic/watercolour)
There are no specific colours, but as a guide, most paintings can be created from cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre and/or raw sienna, cerulean blue, French ultramarine, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, titanium white and ivory black.
Brushes (acrylic)
A range of synthetic flat brushes for working on paper, or hog brushes if working on canvas and boards, plus a small round and a fine rigger brush.
Brushes (watercolour)
Natural hairbrushes and/or synthetics. One large, one or two medium sized round or mop types, a small synthetic round, and a fine rigger brush.
Painting Surface (acrylic)
Winsor Newton acrylic paper or similar. Alternatively hot pressed or NOT surface watercolour paper, canvas, canvas board or pre-gessoed boards and surfaces. Ideally paper should be no bigger than 38x28cm unless you are confident in applying large washes of paint.

Saunders Waterford, Arches, Winsor Newton Professional or any similar cotton paper. Ideally paper should be no bigger than 38x28cm unless you are confident in applying large washes of paint.
Painting Medium (acrylic)
Matt medium
Other equipment (watercolour/acrylic)
Water pot, palette, pencil, eraser, kitchen roll, household sponge wipe (thin moppet type), masking tape, painting board, small spray bottle, newspapers or table covering, apron or old shirt.
