The Young’uns - laugh or cry?

Teesside vocal trio The Young’uns have taken the world by storm in recent years. With their nerve-touching songs, compelling harmonies and infectious humour, they have achieved one of the trickiest balancing acts - the ability to truly make you laugh and make you cry.

The affable thirty-somethings - Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and David Eagle - have composed, arranged and honed an impressive collection of folk songs which highlight issues such as personal tragedies, 21st century politics, wartime heroes, injustices of all kinds, and the indomitable human spirit.

In little more than a decade the three singers, who began their musical journey together busking on the streets and singing in pubs, folk clubs and football terraces, have risen to become UK folk music’s top vocal act. At the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards they won ‘Best Group’ in 2015 and 2016, and ‘Best Album’ in 2018, and they’ve been busy thrilling audiences with their unique act in Australia, Canada and America.

We are thrilled to welcome The Young’uns back to Swaledale Festival and we look forward to a fabulous evening of music and mirth!

“The harmonies are glorious, the wit is waspish. The songs are powerful, the banter is relentless and the audience is happy. What’s not to like?" ★★★★★ The Guardian
